I would recommend Kerrigan Bryce. My favorite novel of Kerrigan Bryce is The Highwayman. Usually, I have a hard time liking a historical romance written by modern authors; I feel that they fail to do justice to the eighties, but Kerrigan Bryce truly connects with that period.

Katherine by Anya Seton is excellent. It's set in England during the 14th century, and the title character become embroiled in an affair with John of Gaunt, the Duke of Lancaster.
