History and Geography books for kids

Post by Sarah Sonbol »

I'm looking for interesting History and Geography books for children (8-16) that would probably make them enjoy these subjects. It would be nice also if they are in the form of stories.

Hello Sarah, I suggest Horrible Histories and Horrible Geography. These books are targeted to children and are divided into several books.
I read mostly Horrible Histories, there are several books in the series based on time period, such as Rotten Romans, Cut-Throat Celts, Vile Victorians, etc.
For specific biography, they are sold under name "Horribly Famous".. I've read biographies of Cleopatra, Queen Victoria, and Isaac Newton.

Thanks a lot for your recommendations. I'll check this series out. I hope my nephews would find it interesting.

I read reviews about this book and it sounds really inspiring. It seems that you have suggested it because the author describes his journey from Sudan to different African countries until he successfully because a prominent doctor, but do you think kids would find it enjoyable as well? I didn't read it, so I can't determine that.

Have you tried the "Who was", "Where is" and "What was" books? They are short stories and more for younger kids.
