I also think that true-life stories are "cool" to read as we could get to understand a bit about various real-life experiences.
The disappearance of the word "I am" is indeed the highest happiness! :)

I love true life stories, there my favorite genre! I think the book that really got me into this genre was “The Glass Castle” by Jeanette Walls. However my grandmother loves true crime stories and my mom also loves true to life stories. Since you like stories of survival I recommend “The Last Traverse” by Ty Gange as its about a harrowing mountain rescue and is a true story about two hikers stuck on the Franconia Ridge in NH. I'm from this area and Hikers die here every year. I recently read this book as the story is legendary in this area.

I would definitely give Yeonmi Park's "In order to live" a read. It is about her escape from North Korea, as a warning the book does have some dark moments and is based on real life events.

I'm not sure if this book completely fits your description, but within this true story book, the Osage people are fighting to survive in a society full of corruption: Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann.

I also highly recommend Eddie Jaku's memoir The Happiest Man on Earth. Jaku is a Holocaust survivor.

Another book I highly recommend and that I enjoyed is a reflection on life but isn't directly addressing marriage but depicts a healthy marriage: [i/I Guess I Haven't Learned That Yet: Discovering New Ways of Living When the Old Ways Stop Working[/i] by Shauna Niequist. As a full-disclosure, Niequist is Christian; this book is from a Christian perspective.

Try Tara Westover's "Educated" for a shocking memoir! Tina Turner's "My Love Story" is another poignant true-life story.

I would recommend Authentically Anchored by Shonda Ramsey for a true life story that includes changes.

It's about her personal journey through the trials in her life amd how they changed who she is today.

I personally like the true crime stories. Not quite sure why, but even those types of shows interest me.

Reading about someone else's life puts the chaos of mine on hold for a bit

Snatched Up to Heaven is a great book. I suppose you could call it a True-Life Story. It is very popular. I enjoyed it.

Stage Fright 15 is a story about the author's experience having cancer. Those type of books are downers, but this one is not. I am reading it now.

I have mixed feelings about true life stories. I think I prefer them when they talk about love, but certainly not unrequited or starcrossed love.
Funny how I read one about a woman's experience growing up, and I enjoyed it. It was sad, and most of it made me angry, but I like the lessons I got out of it. I'll find the book, 'cause right now I can't really remember the name.
