I absolutely love espionage books, especially when the lead character is exceptionally talented at something. I tend to prefer books set in Russia and taking place between the 1980 and the present, though that is absolutely not a requirement. Any recommendations are hugely appreciated.

I once read an espionage thriller titled The Unlikely Spy. Unfortunately, I forgot its author, but it was a masterpiece.

You can read French author John Le Carre's books that introduce readers to international espionage. Some of his work include "Call for the Dead," "A Murder of Quality," "The Spy Who Came In from the Cold," "The Looking Glass War," "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy," and "The Honourable Schoolboy." American Robert Ludlum is also known for writing thrillers in the spy genre. Consider some these titles: The Scarletti Inheritance, The Osterman Weekend, The Rhineman Exchange and the Holcroft Covenant. New Zealand author Peter Kozmar has some of his books set in Russia. One of his prominent books is entitled Defector.
