Looking for new books to read!

Post by AshleyLeemans »

Hi, my name is Ashley and I'm new to the site! I'm so excited to be a part of a book-loving community! I'm currently reading the Harry Potter series because although I have seen every movie and I am obsessed with the series this is my first time actually reading it. Better late than never! I'm on book 7 so I'll need something new to read very soon! I love the fantasy type stuff and anything science fiction or futuristic. Things like the Maze Runner series by James Dashner and the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld.
I'm looking forward to your suggestions!

If children's books don't put you off, I'd suggest the Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull. It's one of my favorites. Fairies 8)

I love fairies :shifty:
Pronouns: She/Her

What is grief, if not love persevering?

Grief is just love with no place to go.

I am mostly going to be focusing on the fact that you love Harry Potter, here.

If you love Harry Potter because of the magic, read The Raven Boy, by Maggie Stiefvater. The characters are appealing, and it is full of magic and the supernatural.

If you love the characters, I would recommend Virals, by Kathy Reichs. She is the creator of the Bones show and books, and the characters are funny and stupidly intelligent.

Happy reading!

The little Prince - a very old book first published in 1943 by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. First recommended to me by a priest to read ... and i realized it is amazing ...

From what you've shared I think you would enjoy the Gregor, The Overlander series by Suzanne Collins. The stories are written for children/young adults, but Collins' masterful plotting and engaging characters ensured I enjoyed reading as an adult as well.

The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman is an amazing book. It's a trilogy that's set in a whole different world and has a lot of science fiction and fantasy incorporated.

Otherland by Tad Williams is a pretty neat series. The author actually wrote the book before computers and mobile devices were a thing. The terminology within the series is a little world, but honestly he's not to far off the mark considering he wrote the series pre-internet era. While it's a long read, the series is SUPER good. You'll just be going through it so fast before you know it you'll be on the last book. :D

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline - essentially a virtual treasure hunt set in a dystopian future. A quick and super engaging read!

Divergent by Veronica Roth, The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey, The Fault In Our Stars (anything by John Green, Delirium by Lauren Oliver, to the Selection by Kiera Cass. All books I and most of my students absolutely loved and recommended!
