Books about books

Post by pemb4274 »

Hey,

Recently I've really been enjoying books where authors write about the importance of books in their lives, their reading experiences and other book-related books.

I've read, and highly enjoyed:
'Howards End is on the Landing' - Susan Hill
'Ex Libris' - Anne Fadiman
'The Year of Reading Dangerously' - Andy Miller
and a bit different, but still very well-written and recommended
'My Salinger Year' - Joanna Rakoff.

Apart from highly recommending the above, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations along these lines :)

(This is my first post - looking forward to seeing what people suggest)

Hello,
This is my first post too! :) Maybe you would like "Shadow of the wind", By Carlos Ruiz Zafon. I've just started it myself, but I'm enjoying it so far. The summary seems really interesting: it's set in Barcelona after the Spanish Civil war. There is a young boy, Daniel, who is taken by his father to a cemetery of forgotten books (a sort of secret society). All the book lovers who go there are supposed to choose a book and protect it for the rest of their lives. Daniel chooses his book and becomes absolutely fascinated with it. He tries to find out more about the author, but can't find any information. Everything about the book is a big mystery, and Daniel becomes obsessed with solving it.

I hope I didn't give too much away (I don't think I can, since I don't know a lot myself yet)
Hope you like my suggestion!

I'd recommend "The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry" by Gabrielle Zenith.

I have not finished it yet, but The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield sounds like it's right up your alley. :)
