I usually learn things by watching YouTube​ videos like Ted-ed.
Now I want to start reading books. I've read some short stories before. I wonder how people read huge books with a thousand pages without losing interest. I lose interest sometimes at the first page.
I borrowed War and Peace from library and I don't know if it the right material to start out.

I want to make this a pleasant experience, so can someone suggest me some good beginner books I can read?

Yeah. I really wouldn't recommend War and Peace for a beginner. I think it all depends on your reading ability and level. You might want to start in the young adult section.

Well, what movies or TV shows do you like? I can usually make some good book recommendations based off of that.

Try reading The Princess Bride by William Goldman. It won't feel like work at all. It's so much fun.

War and Peace might be a bit dense for a beginner (I know I enjoyed Les Miserables by Victor Hugo much more), but if you're going for the classics I would try The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas, which has fun dialogue and likeable characters. Animal Farm by George Orwell is good as well, and The Great Gatsby by Scott F. Fitzgerald is pretty popular. I know I'm a big Jane Austen fan because I love her dry wit and humor, but that isn't for everyone.

It sounds like you might also be into nonfiction, or narrative non-fiction, just from your comment about Ted-Ed. There's tons of awesome biographies and books on real-life subjects (a very popular genre right now is true crime), so I would say find a ted-ed video you liked and hit up your local library?

Personally, Percy Jackson is what got me reading. Then I fell in love with YA because of The Fault in our Stars by John Green
