I'm a newbie

Post by pbplace »

Hi. I'm new here. I own and operate a book store in canandaigua, new york - The Paperback Place. I've been in business for over 10 years. I started out in a small (very small) location, selling used books. 4 years ago I move to a larger location and started selling new books as well as the used ones. I am an avid reader (obviously). The only drawback to owning and operating my own book store? I thought I would have lots of time to read.....But the darn customers keep interupting me, wanting to buy my books!!! Oh well...

We have a TV series called Black Books, about a grouchy bookstore owner who hates his customers coming in and bothering him! Sound familiar?!! Welcome anyways!!

Hey Carolyn,

I wanted to ask you more about your bookstore :) I have a pretty decent nest egg set aside and this summer I want to go scouting locations for my own bookstore, was it terribly hard to get started?? Are you pretty happy with your business?? There is a man who just opened a tiny used bookstore down the road...he's not very friendly though :( I always go in there with a big smile on my face...but he doesn't try to help his customers or just interact with anyone...but I just wanted to get some of your advice on being a bookstore owner :D
