Hello! Newbie from Nebraska.

Post by Sarabell »

Hi! I wanted to introduce myself. :D

I've always been reluctant to join an IRL book club-- I'm sort of intimidated by the idea of HAVING to read a certain book... if that makes sense. So, I'm really excited to join here!

I am new to here, but have experience in online forums, so I hope no one minds me jumping right in with posts, as I have been doing all morning. I read through a lot of threads, and really wanted to jump right into a few.

A little about me-- I am a stay-at-home mom to 3 girls, Audrey-6 years old, Elena-almost 5, and Mary- 15 months. I love reading to them of course, and a couple of years ago started reading chapter books to them. Some are almost unbearable to adults, but there's a lot of good children's lit, too-- we've read Wizard of Oz, Charlotte's Web, Little Women, etc. I'm hoping to meet some other moms or dads here, and get some more idea! I haven't seen a forum for that, but will be on the lookout for threads.

As far as my habits, I like all sorts of genres-- I read a lot of various non-fic, but have been on a fic kick for a while. I love historical fiction, sci-fi & fantasy, but totally dabble in best-sellers.

Some of my all-time favorites include:
The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley
A Song of Ice and Fire series by George RR Martin
The Alchemist bu Paul Coehlo
The Tale of Edgar Sawtelle
For classics, I love Dickens, and maybe my favorite classic is Dumas' Count of Monte Cristo. I don't read a ton of classics, but they're free on my Kindle, so that's been motivation to read more classics!

Sorry, I know that's a really long intro. I wanted to cover my bases. I have read through a lot of your threads, and added a lot of your suggestions to my list! I can't wait to read more.

Welcome Sarabell ... glad you found us and hope you stay with us.

I don't have children myself but I have 'extensive' experience reading to my niece & nephew & I must admit now that they are reading for
themselves I get nostalgic for our bedtime reading sessions.

Thank you, Fran!

I feel some pre-emptive nostalgia sometimes, for that very thing! I'm hoping they let me periodically still read to them, even when they're all school-aged and reading chapter books alone.

Hi there and welcome to the forums!! I also am afraid of joining a book club because I may have to read books that aren't very good.
