What's your go-to genre?

For me, when I'm bored or need a new book, I usually go for a fantasy adventure or a mystery. It's even better if it has both mystery and fantasy. This is because I like the action, complex plots, and fantasy elements like magic, dragons, etc.
So my question is: What's the genre you return to over and over again? What is it you like about that genre the most?

Presently it's urban fantasy, though it often changes. Used to be high fantasy, mystery, horror...
Urban fantasy has been my go to genre for a long while. I love the "everyday" world of urban fantasy. The idea that a whole world exists that the average person is unaware of.

I always go for romance novels preferably in a historic setting. I read all kinds of other stuff but that is my favorite get lost in it, doesn't require any thought or analysis, just get lost in the story.

Romance! Always romance! It has a feel good factor about it and lifts my mood instantly!

Fantasy of any type will do it, but I'm especially partial to urban fantasy.

Historical fiction or a mystery. Even better is when they are combined in one story.

My all-time favorite is mystery/suspense, but I also go for historical fiction and romance. I don't like reading anything too dark, like horror novels, because they're just not entertaining. Too stressful.

Agree on that.
Just a quick question - you don't find mystery/suspense stressful?

Definitely fantasy! Historical fiction/historical romance would be second (can't decide between the two).

Probably mystery or adventure!
I'm not a huge fan of things really far-fetched whether that's a Nicholas Sparks novel or an "out there" fantasy. Even with fantasy, I like when there's an element of realism there. When the author stays true to the characters and the "rules" within the world they've created.

Non-fiction. I'm a student of life and love learning. I'm publishing my first book next month, so I'm reading books on editing, marketing through social media, Stephen King's On Writing. I'm also a sucker for anything on leadership, spirituality, or the human potential movement.

This response perfectly sums up my thoughts! Fantasy, then Historical Fiction, for sure.

Mine would be mystery or horror first, then action... (is there such a genre?) or fantasy next. Occasionally I do read romance as well.
