I would have to say yes, I do believe in ghosts. I don't see them in the traditional way, or what I consider traditional. I believe that what people see as ghosts are the workings of angels and demons. I'm really not sure how to explain my point of view, but there have been many experiences in my family that I feel very confident that there is much more to life than just the natural, physical side that we can see, hear, taste, smell and feel. It is very fascinating to think of all that goes on without us realizing it for the majority of the time!

I believe in spirits. I don't believe that ghost can haunt a person or a dwelling but I do believe that spirits can linger or even follow someone they knew when they were alive

Ghosts are naturally inert and render no influence in reality except to the finely tuned psychic. An apparition however can make impacting suggestions of some sort of action. For better or worse apparitions are tangible contrary to ghosts. Although i can see how the two may be confused. look up astral projection, and Peter Pan.

Yes. I've been reading about "shadow people" recently. When I was a kid, I'd see a shadow pass in my peripheral and I'd turn quickly to look, but no one was there. I thought I was the only one who experienced this until I read about shadow people. When I was little, I also thought that there were ghosts in certain spots in the house and I would not go to those places alone. Children always fear ghosts, boogeymen, etc. and my theory is that children can really see/sense ghosts, but they stop noticing them when it's drilled into their heads that it is only make-believe.

I'm kind of weird about ghosts - intellectually I do not believe in them, and yet I am super scared of ghosts... so clearly on some level I do believe in ghosts. I try not to think too hard about it, because I get freaked out just thinking about it.

I think I've always believed in presences other than our own, but for the longest time I was in denial of the existence of ghosts as defined as the lingering spirits of people whose bodies died. Having been raised in the religion that I was...I was more likely to think of them as angelic or demonic forces. Though, after having heard stories of people close to me (my ex boyfriend claimed to have felt the presence of his father on a time or two) I have gotten a little more open minded to the idea of them existing.

Ever experience something weird, something you just can't explain that brings up a memory of someone close to you? Maybe you felt a touch on your shoulder, or the hairs on the back of your neck stood up? I felt a flick on my nose one day, and the last time anyone did that to me was just before my best friend passed away. I believed in ghosts before, but after that night, my belief is much stronger now.

lane_vespertine wrote:Ghosts go back to our desire to have some sort of proof that life goes on after death. Not just a belief or a faith, but actual proof.
People see things all the time that they can't explain. I don't doubt for a moment that TrishaAnn92 did see her grandfather when she was sick.
But our brains aren't perfect, they aren't little video recorders in our heads. They don't perfectly record events... well ever. Especially if sickness or stress is involved.
If someone is motivated to believe in ghosts, frequently because they want that proof, then any sort of 'glitch' in the brain can be explained by it.
But these 'glitches' could also be used to 'prove' aliens, gods, an understanding of how a roulette table works, anything.
And by 'glitches' I am referring to anything that makes our brains do bizarre stuff.
Tunnel vision when you are scared.
Hallucinations when sick or on drugs.
Our need to see faces when there aren't any (like in the cracks or patterns of your childhood ceiling.)
All of this is completely normal, and everyone has experienced these things.
Going back to the original question: No, I don't believe in ghosts. But I believe when people say that they have seen one. I just think that the ghost was more likely in their head (still a valid observation, mind you) than an actual spectral representation of a dead person.

As I read this topic, I was struggling with how to formulate my thoughts. I do not personally believe in ghosts, but I do not doubt those who claim these experiences. You put into words exactly what I did not know how to say. Thanx. 8)

I believe there are ghosts all around us. I have seen and heard many things that others would believe me to be crazy if I told the stories. Or maybe I'd become a famous writer.

Yes, I believe in ghosts. But I think they are just another kind of energy which is always around us. How they appear to us or affect us, depends on the strength of the energy.

Having personally experienced the existence of a spirit, I do believe that they are real. Whether we have the ability to affect humans or object when we pass into the spirit realm I am not sure, but I do believe that a spirit could affect a human like this book, although I hope not, because that would mean that I could be affected as well. Anyway, in my eyes ghosts do exist and I am open to the thought of their abilities in affecting the corporeal plane.

L_Therese wrote:There are a lot of different opinions about what ghosts are and how they interact with living people. This book is predicated on the idea that they are real and can cause an effect for a living person. Do you believe in ghosts or spirits? Are they good or evil? How do they affect corporeal reality? If you don't believe, did this affect your enjoyment of the book?

I'm not sure about effecting a living person, it gives me the creeps to think about! I believe it more in a scientific energy sort of way, I guess, if I had to say so for myself (so more on the lines of mentally effecting a living person). I am a very open minded person though, so it's hard to affect my enjoyment and seeing other sides and opinions really opens my mind to other possibilities :D
