Beth was an exciting, hard-to-put-down, well-written adventure. I rate it 5/5.

There were so many things to like about this book. The main character, Beth, was feisty and sassy, and she stood her ground time and time again throughout the story. The book interested me within the first chapter but by chapter three I was hooked. There was mystery surrounding Beth and her family. The author piqued my interest with mystery, then added a good bit of adventure, and unraveled the mystery at a perfect pace.

This book was about a teenage girl with special powers. The author took that somewhat familiar premise and crafted a unique and highly entertaining story.

The story was set in the modern day, and the scenes were described with enough detail to visualize each location but not so much as to be description heavy. Just like the pace of the story, the setting was in balance.

The secondary and sideline characters were well-developed. I appreciated that Beth had a few good characters with good intentions helping her along the way. The dialogue felt realistic, and the banter made me chuckle. The antagonist was ruthless and cruel, an element that raised the stakes of the story and forced Beth to discover who and what she was.

I felt like the magic system, or special powers, were thoroughly explained but not in an "info dump" way. As the reader, I learned about the magic as Beth did: piece by piece, and with a lot of action and adventure in between each revelation.

I can't think of any improvements or criticisms for this book. It was well-balanced with every element of a good story peppered throughout. The pace of plot was perfect. The characters each had life of their own. It was a beautifully crafted story and a pleasure to read.

Beth was a page turner and I stayed up way too late reading because I could not put it down. I would recommend this book to any young adult or adult bookworm looking to enjoy a fresh and unique adventure.
