Terms of Service: Subject To Change Without Notice by Craig W. Stanfill was an interesting book to read. I highly recommend this for young adults and up who enjoy reading dystopian novels and about the possible rising threat of AI.

This novel takes place in a dystopian future where artificial intelligence runs everything. Kim is the main character who parties a lot and trains low-level artificial intelligence programs, living her life by the rules and trying her very best not to stand out. Everything she does is to further that single goal, at least until her old friend Shan appears. When Shan appears, Kim’s entire life changes almost immediately.

The author draws a chilling yet very compelling picture of what could happen in a world under constant surveillance and conditioning. Terms of Service showcases that in this society, not all rewards are given in good will, and not all consequences are the worst thing to happen to you. The author genuinely did a good job showing this while still keeping true to the message they intended to convey, specifically the message about AI.

I give Terms of Service four out of five stars for the worldbuilding and quite creative way of showing the reader the darker side of just what may occur with artificial intelligence. The editing was extremely well done, as I did not catch any errors while reading the novel. I did not give this novel five stars because I did feel like a lot of the conversations throughout the story were a bit flat for what the moment called for.

Terms of Service: Subject To Change Without Notice is an extremely intense book as it tricks the reader into thinking ‘what if?’, making sure the pages are turned and draws them in, keeping them guessing by making them turn the page over and over. It is highly likely readers of this novel will seek to find out what’s next for Kim and seek out the next novel in the series.
