In the vein of similar books by Douglas Adams and David Foster Wallace comes H2Liftships - Beyond Luna. This book is quite like it is described, a rousing romp of a space opera following a few characters and their lives living in a distant future. As mentioned, the author goes into detail describing much of the technology used in this universe, not only making the story feel plausible, but also real. If you are not interested in a quite literal take on science meets fiction, this might not be the book for you. If, however, you enjoy a book that takes time to fully conceptualize the minutiae that make a world tick, then you will enjoy this as much as I did.
There are moments where the pacing feels a little abrupt, but these instances do not detract from the overall story. I particularly enjoyed how the different and seemingly disparate storylines interconnected by the end. The storyline follows the lives of various different characters in the universe. Bob Freeman does an excellent job of making these varied viewpoints feel important as their own universe but also integral to the story as a whole. I really love books that treat characters as puzzle pieces, where on their own they are one image, but put together at the end they create a whole new image that is much more satisfactory.
I am rating this book a four as an excellent read and a five as amazing because I believe that any reader who is a fan of science fiction and fantasy would enjoy this piece of literature. This book would be a great choice for both younger and older readers, as it has no profanities and avoids more explicit depictions of character interactions. This introduction to the world of Bob Freeman's design is fascinating and certainly draws the readers in, gearing them up for more adventures in the following novels!
