Re: Do You Believe in Aliens?

Post by Jennifer Allsbrook »

I believe that the universe is too vast to think that only one planet in one solar system orbiting one star in one galaxy is the sole location of life. There are billions of stars in our own galaxy and billions of galaxies in the universe. The odds are for the existence of extraterrestrial life. I don't know whether or not aliens could impact life on Earth. It is something interesting to consider and the many SETI scientists out there will continue the search.

I definitely agree! There is no way we are the only life in the entire universe. I don't know how much I believe in aliens coming to earth or us finding them, but I definitely do believe there is alien life out there somewhere.

I don't believe in aliens. Like others have said there is the possibility that they are out there because the universe is so large, but the chances of there being another Goldilocks planet (not too hot, not too cold) capable of sustaining life like Earth are slim.

I believe there is a possibility that aliens exist. Maybe one day we will know for sure.

No, I don't believe there are aliens and I don't think aliens would have any effects on us.

I want to believe that there is life form on other planets, but I don't think I imagine them as the cliche "aliens" exactly. The universe is really too big to not have other life, although the creation of earth did need a lot of coincidental occurrences. But also, because of how big the universe is, these life forms could be millions of light years away, so for now, it does feel like we're the only ones around.

If there is life on Earth, I'd like to believe that there are other forms of life as well. I'm sure that there may be (or rather, must be) other Earth-like planets out there and so, living beings as well. For our reference, we call them as 'aliens'. For all we know, they might be extremely similar to forms of life on Earth.

I'd love to believe that there is other life out there - in whatever form it takes. Surely we must be egotistical to believe we are the only ones?

It would be presumptuous to suggest that in this vast and expanding cosmos to state that we are the only lifeforms in this unfathomable universe. I think it would be pretentiously arrogant to believe that humans are the most superior beings out of all the galaxies that exist within and without the limited extent of our knowledge. Humans are relatively new in our own solar system, and at the rate we are going will soon be the cause our own extinction. Our quickly diminishing resources and humanity suggests we are not all that bright and perhaps don't know as much as we like to assume. I propose that in this expansive eternal universe, there are beings that exist in various stages of evolution. Considering how far our space engineering has come in the last seventy-five years, it is quite likely that other species are also as advanced and most probably out rank us in their technical engineering. The possibility exists that one or more of them would at least have the ability to check us out. Would they come here to destroy us? I can't imagine why they would bother, they don't have to kill us off, we are doing that just fine by ourselves. All they have to do is wait. Do they come here? I guess we just have to ask those who have been in contact with them; they would know.

Of course!
I don't think you can actually believe we are here alone after watching a DeGrasse Tyson Documentary!

The size of the known universe is so huge that an infinite amount of opportunity is present.
The multiverses theory is something that interests me on the subject of extraterrestrials, imagine if the universe we live in is a complete opposite to another?! Its hard to get your head around but once you've seen and heard the scientific thesis around today its even harder not to comtemplate it and be in awe.

I believe there are other life forms out there. Like others have said, space is to large of an area to think we are alone. Also it's very "human" and selfish of us to think we are the only form to inhabit a planet. I honestly, deep down, believe our society is to primitive for them to even bother with us.

There is another YA book called "Mirror in the Sky" that presents a second planet so similar to Earth that it's like an alternative universe. In the book it explores famous people through out history and how their life paths differ. One example is Virginia Woolf, who turns into a very different person from the one on our planet. Interesting concept.

The chance of other life in the universe is almost certain. The chance of intelligent life is very probable. That it is so far in advance of ours that it could come here to visit is possible. However, it would probably be completely unlike us and it would make much more sense to send some sort of mechanical probe rather than make such a journey oneself to see if we are another intelligent species.

I don't know whether I do or don't believe with any certainty, but I certainly find it hard to think that as vast as the universe is that our teeny little blimp is the only spot special enough for life. As pitiful as the Earth can be, it's almost a sad thought to think we're the only life in all the universe, and if there are other life forms, I don't know why they'd want to be bothered with Earthlings. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of beauty and wonder on Earth, but I just don't see how this one tiny spot in an infinite universe is the only spot with life.

I believe that there is life on other planets simply because the universe is so vast. However, I do not believe aliens visit us just like we don't visit them.

Great discussion question! I've always been a big fan of sci-fi movies/tv shows/novles and I can only hope that we're not alone in the universe! However, I don't think I'll ever get the answers to this question in my lifetime. :mrgreen2:
