Great fight scenes without the gore

One thing that struck me about this book was how well-written the fight scenes were. I like supernatural action stories and movies, like Underworld and Blade. This felt similar. I usually find action as written in books hard to visualize, but I thought this writer was spot on. I also appreciated that there wasn't gratuitous blood. When I read books with lots of gory descriptions, it makes me feel rather voyeuristic.

I absolutely agree! The entire work action oriented but not bogged down. I loved how concise his writing was and easy to read without sacrificing overall details and enjoyment. Have you read any of the sequels yet?

I agree with the comparison with the mentioned films; out of the different thematic, it faces the action and even the concept of the "secret organizations" in a similar way. The fight scenes are quite fluid and pretty well described, but sometimes I feel that the plot ends up secondary to them, as if the author had in mind the battles/chase scenes along with the characters and the backstory, but that the rest of the plot were nothing but minor lines to connect those dots.

I agree. The fight scenes were one of the best parts of this book.

I concur with you, it is generally very difficult to write action scenes but in this book, I could picture the action scene and what is even better is that the scenes are not overly gruesome!

I really liked the way the author described the action scenes. The could easily be imagined. I felt like it was all happening around me.

I think you’re right. When an author can convey the seriousness of a fight without the blood and death, it’s a plus and not necessary. Other times I kind of enjoy it.

Great descriptive ability. The fight scenes were literally playing before me as I read them.
