Do you prefer reading or watching Sci-Fi?

Sci-fi is such a vast genre. It can include so many new types of aliens, species, technology etc. Do you ever find it's just easier to watch (especially with modern day visual effects) because sometimes it's difficult to understand when reading?

I like both. I think if the author of the book does it well enough, it's still easy to picture and understand. That's the mark of a truly gifted author though.

I think while reading, it's up to reader's imagination and the writer's writing power which makes it more creative than it may actually be shown in Sci-Fi. While watching Sci-Fi, there is no scope of creativity, we are just watching whatever we have been shown. So, definitely, I prefer reading over watching Sci-Fi.

I do like both but I do enjoy a good Sci-Fi movie. One of my favorite Sci-Fi books is Ender's Game, I thought they did a decent job with the movie too!

I like both. Each is a different type of experience, as others here have indicated. Thus, there is an opportunity for varying experiences, which keeps things interesting.

I prefer reading and have no problem of understanding. But then, I hardly watch T.V.

I enjoy reading sci-fi because imagining stuff is so much cooler in your mind. However, I do find watching sci-fi easier and sometimes more fun.

I prefer reading because it gives me freedom to imagine the events and the characters. Watching sci-fi is only watching the creativity of the director.

I am not a big fan of either, but I would have to say that I would watch Sci-Fi more easily than I would read it. However, I don't watch a whole lot of it either.

At times, I prefer watching sci-fi if the movie is like the plot and the effects of the matrix and if I watch with my family or friends. Watching with them is a chance of bonding for me.

Good question! I love reading sci-fi/fantasy just because it gives my imagination a chance to run wild...no screen production can match that. Having said that, I can watch far more sci-fi movies in a given time than I can read sci-fi books (especially since they tend to be long). So if I only have a small window of time, and don't anticipate being able to complete a book, I have no issue watching a good sci-fi film. Of course, as with a book, a bad sci-fi film still feels like a waste of time!

I love this question!

I tend to only read a certain type of sci-fi, but enjoy watching a vast array of sci-fi movies and series. I actually often wonder about this.
This is the best explanation I can come up with: while reading, I enjoy detailed science, and prefer characters that I can become attached to. When I'm watching something, I don't tend to judge as harshly, and can enjoy it without the heavy details and whatnot.
I'm also a special effects geek. I love to see what can be done with just a little imagination.

Most of the times I do prefer reading Sci-fi, because with my creativity, sometimes I picture and imagine it better than what I watch on the screen. Some directors are also amazing, they are able to create what you wanna see.

I would have to say this one definitely depends. In many cases, I do prefer watching Sci-Fi over reading it, especially modern Sci-Fi. What they do with special effects these days is amazing. However, there are many Sci-Fi books that I absolutely love, and that I would never want to see as movies. They tend to be on the more classic side of Sci-Fi. Outside of reading classic Sci-Fi, I am not much into that genre of books much (with a few exceptions).

I think I prefer watching it, only because depending on how good the author is or how knowledgeable they are. Sometimes I am not very good at understanding the mechanics of things. Like ships, what part of it is important, malfunctioning and why. Some authors get really technical about their...technology. Sometimes it is easier for me visually to understand what is happening. However, I am trying to get into the genre far more in recent months. Fantasy is mainly left to our imagination but I believe Sci-Fi is more deeply explained on a technical side. Plus, special effects these days! wow!
