I've never been to Rome, but I spent a few days in Venice. You should definitely visit Venice. There are no cars in the old section, and other than the sound of boat travel, all you can hear are people walking – that is what I remember most. There is really no substitute for actually visiting a place. All you can get from a book is what your imagination can glean from the author's words. In reality, every new place has its own soul – a sense that is unique only to it. We can't conjure what we have never experienced – so books can never really take the place of actually visiting someplace new. I've given up my traveling days, but every now and then, I will catch a smell, or some familiar sense that will transport me back to a place I have been and I can experience, once again, its uniqueness. These are treasured memories. So, close your books - get on a train, a plane or a boat and actually visit those places of which you have dreamt.daikin03101996 wrote:Rome is at the top of my list. I really like your avatar – did you draw it? My wife use to have her hair like that – without the hardware. She was very beautiful.

My husband has been to Venice and said it wasn't that clean. And it was many years ago. Now I understand it is even worse. Nice that you have visited it.DennisK wrote:I've never been to Rome, but I spent a few days in Venice. You should definitely visit Venice. LOL ! - travel and sterility are not mutual companions... My visit there was also many years ago. I would not like to revisit the places I've been because I know places change with time - for example, McDonald's in Europe? ..... NO THANK YOU! These days, if I were to go anywhere, I think I would like to visit Peru and/or Chile.gali wrote:My husband has been to Venice and said it wasn't that clean. And it was many years ago. Indeed, but not like that. I have been in Paris and it was clean enough. I wouldn't mind visiting it again.DennisK wrote:LOL ! - travel and sterility are not mutual companions... You obviously enjoyed your visit to Paris – how long ago was your visit? I was like that with Barcelona and with Heidelberg – couldn't get enough of those places but I wouldn't visit them now. I would be afraid of poisoning the memories of how they use to be.gali wrote:Indeed, but not like that. I have been in Paris and it was clean enough. It was four years ago. I enjoyed it very much, but probably wouldn't go there again as I want to visit other places as well. And we do have a budget to consider. I sure understand about poisoning the memories, though.DennisK wrote:You obviously enjoyed your visit to Paris – how long ago was your visit?
