Yes, most definitely. That is the wonder of books. I will never be able to afford a world tour, but I've reached all the continents and even beyond ( worlds of fantasy) through books. Awesome!

Yes, I do. However, after reading a book that I enjoyed I do extra research and if the book's descriptions match my research about the area, I am pleased. But if the descriptions have obvious errors because the actual author didn't research the area, I am disappointed and would not likely read any more books from that particular author. Even though we write fiction doesn't mean we can get details wrong on a place, especially if that place is a popular travel destination.

I do agree with you. Art is life and, fiction by extension, is a work of art. Therefore,I strongly believe that writers should strive for realism as much as possible.

Absolutely yes! :D
Especially if the author can make inanimate structures come to life with meaning. Someone like Dan Brown.
Sometimes it's more fun to travel to a place through somebody else's eyes.

I would take it a step further to say I like to read about places that I cannot go to. Worlds that exist only in the mind of the creator are fascinating to me. Imagination is limitless, and a great author can weave a brilliant and enthralling world that is a sheer joy to read about.
It is what you read when you don’t have to that determines what you will be when you can’t help it.

Description is one of my favorite things in books. I bought a nonfiction book about plant and animal life on the west coast of the US even though I have never seen it in person. I'm fascinated by the feeling of intrigue and freedom when I read about places I've never been. I don't have a specific book, but I have a specific location and that is a beach house with a private beach. I have never been to one, but have read stories set at a beach house. I always feel so peaceful during these reads.

It has always my goal to travel a lot. But circumstances won't let me yet. Reading books gives me a glimpse of this dream. It is amazing to imagine how a place looks by reading books. It is not just a habit for me but a wonderful escape from the reality :)

Yes, of course. I actually find it fun to read how the people from those places do on the daily. Kinda makes you get a glimpse of everything else entirely.

I love reading about different places. The books discribe places so well, I long to go see these places myself to experience what i've read about.

What I love to do is to follow along where I'm reading using Google Earth and Street View. I find it fascinating to view the locations that I'm reading about, often real landmarks and business establishments. It's always a little disappointing to discover an author's locale is purely fictional. I find actually seeing the setting enhances my enjoyment of the book and expands my geographical knowledge. For example, I just finished a book with many locales in Budapest and I practically feel like I've been there.

This is a great idea. I never thought of doing that. That would make the book even more real, almost like a movie perhaps. Thanks for sharing this.

It's one way of exploring the world. I like it. Especially when I am planning to visit such a place, so I get a pre-information about where am going and what I expect there.

yes, I do appreciate books that are set in places I've never been especially when the author does a great job of painting the picture in your mind or better yet teases your imagination.
