What other art form and artist?

Post by Gravy »

What art form (besides music) could be used in this kind of adaptation?

What (non-musical) artist's work would you like to see used this way?

Well, as an author, I'd like to see someone's love for books used this way! Perhaps different people going to a book signing and in the queue to meet their favourite author? JK Rowling would be an obvious one, but there are so many others... Stephen King, Lee Child, James Patterson, Nora Roberts, Sherrilyn Kenyon... authors whose books spend weeks and months on the bestseller list.

Come to think of it, an art exhibition would be interesting too... one of the great travelling exhibitions which pop up at major museums from time to time. Degas, Monet, Van Gogh?
Or something really fun - I just took my sons to a major LEGO exhibition this weekend! Or a show like Cirque Du Soleil or Cavalia, or the Moscow Ballet! So many options!

Great idea! I would love that too. :)

They could also visit some of the places mentioned in their favorite book (aka touring the Jane Austen sights in Hampshire and Bath).

Well, in my Other Life I write Jane Austen variations, and I know quite a few of the UK based authors do get together and do fun stuff like that. They write blog posts about it, but I don't know that anyone's turned it into a book idea... yet!

Fine art, because I can relate. My two favourite books which included art (especially with an emphasis on the process) are The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant and Life Class by Jenny Newman. I'm always on the lookout for more books with art as the focus.

I agree that fine art is another form that could have been used. I enjoy seeing illustrations and artwork. I would've been drawn to the story more if there has been some.

Works of art would be an interesting concept-perhaps a group of artists in the same genre? For me, I would love to see a novel written around The Impressionists-Monet, Manet, Degas, Cezanne, Renoir, etc. So many great choices there. Cubism might be interesting as well. However, once you get past Picasso and Braque, name recognition of other artists in that genre falls off rapidly.
Interested in books that help one's spirit move beyond the ordinary.

I actually almost mentioned van Gogh, but wanted to offer my answers separately. That way the thread could go in every direction!

I like your idea about authors. A thought would be a book inspired event, like the Vampire Ball in New Orleans, or The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Or even Disneyland!
There are so many options!

An actors filmography could even be used.

I'm really enjoying all the ideas in my head right now.

A painting. This question reminds me of the movie Monaliza's Smile. The protagonist is portrayed by Julia Roberts. It was a successful movie not just because of the artists involved but because the plot of the story touches personal lives.

Dance would be an interesting option. Maybe a certain ballet.

Or perhaps a play. Broadway musical?

I think that sculpting would have been an interesting art form to read about.

Yeah, like a major RPG. The author could alternate between in the game, and out of the game. It would almost be like two different stories, but uniquely tied together.
I'm so geeking over this idea.
