What other books have you read that were translated from another language?
Of those, which one was your favorite?

Most classics fall into this catagory, but a more contemporary one I love is The Neverending Story, translated from the original German, Die unendliche Geschichte.

I read many of those such as "Les Misérables", "The Hunchback of Notre-Dame", and "The Neverending Story" which was my favorite.

The "Gates to Tangier" and "Raquel Says Something" by Mois Bennaroch. I love those two stories because they opened new realities to me.

You know, I never realized that Never Ending Story was a translation from German. Interesting.

I don't believe I've ever read a book that was translated from another language. If I have, I wasn't aware of it.

Oh, I also read a few of Philippe Claudel's books, translated from French. Highly recommend, if you are looking for some translated books.

I did not read the book, "Never Ending Story" but I watched the movie. It is a movie which sticks into your mind.

You should then as the book is much better.

One good thing about translating a book to our international language is it reaches a wider audience. If the book has a great message and is translated excellently, it would be great.

I agree. It can reach a wide audience that way. As long as the book is translated well, I don't mind it isn't the original.

I'm actually hoping to start Memory of Water by Emmi Itäranta soon. It was originally in Finnish and the author herself translated it to English.

Another one I have to note, because it is one of my favorite classics, is The Phantom of the Opera.

It is a big reason I would love to learn German. I dream of being able to read it in it's original language.

I have only read the classics - Beowulf would be my favorite. I also love Sir Gawain the Green Knight.

I've also read other books by Michael Ende (author of The Neverending Story).

Another series that I love was "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" (a Swedish thriller).

I have also read this series...at least the first three books.

Another one was The Gold-rimmed Spectacles by Giorgio Bassani. It was Italian and I read it in English. Unfortunately, it was a terrible translation and it seemed like it didn't do the original justice (according to the Italian women who read it in Italian).
