I have not read the entire book as yet but I have to say that the first and second prologue really stood out to me because they seem to suggest a stellar book but then the story shifts and I'm like "really". The opening quote from the art of war was also pretty cool.

I agree. In fact, the description compelled me to do my own research about the Panama Canal and it served me well. I am thankful for this part of the book.

There were so many interesting situations throughout the story. My favorite, though, was probably when Max went to the motel/brothel that Sophia managed, because he needed her help, as well as Godfredo's help.

I particularly liked the descriptions of the clandestine agency, their training establishment, and the realisation that these types of people can be brought in at a whim and are essentially unable to live normal lives. It is a slap in the face of realization of what they can do to protect our security.

I liked the scene before the climax with Max and Karis in the car - Max hitting rock bottom - and then, the totally unexpected!

Without any second thoughts, I'll go with the one when Max decided to leave his future wife for sake of his career. That sank my heart. I was so disturbed by that. She didn't deserve that. ????????? How could he do that?

Well, may be that part of the study is a big puzzle to us but considering the circumstances, maybe Max did not really love Sarah that much to sacrifice his career for her.
