Did Jennifer Cross a Line on Thanksgiving?

During their holiday meal, Jennifer took it upon herself to try to initiate the act of forgiveness between Marty and his ex-wife. While done with the best of intentions, it was clear that Marty was caught off guard, and emotionally unprepared.

Did Jennifer cross a line? Could she have found a better time and place to attempt to bring peace to the broken family?

I think her heart was in the right place. In the long run, she really did facilitate better family relations.

Her heart was definitely in the right place. And, she did get the ball rolling towards figuring out how best to work together for their children.

I thought she had really good intentions, but I also felt she was crossing a line too early because she was new to the family. I also thought she was taking charge because she was used to be a leader.

This is a good point. Maybe it's just ingrained in her to try to make her team work better together and so when she sees a conflict it's second nature to her to try to fix it.

Those are really good points. I hadn't thought about Jennifer's take-charge attitude in reference to this particular issue. Thank you both for the insight!

I think she should have talked to Marty first. Throwing him in there without telling him could have made him feel deceived or hurt, and there are easier ways to go about inviting exes over for Thanksgiving. In the end, however, she did help her family to heal and brought more joy into all of their lives.

I agree. Putting an early word to Marty on his intentions would have been the wiser thing to do. But then she may have wanted an element of surprise.

I think she did the right thing trying to heal the old wounds between them.

I think it can be really hard to determine the best time to step in on a situation between two people. Catching them off guard like that wasn't the best of ideas.

I agree her heart was in the right place, but she should have first tried reaching out to both parties individually before bringing them together.

Yes, I feel like she did cross a lone. She should have never done that because Marty was totally unprepared for it.

A lot of damage is done by self-righteous people who meddle, and I think that Jennifer was one of them. These things can go very very wrong and I don't think she was prepared for those consequences.

I agree. Even if her heart was in the right place, it wasn’t right for her to make that move. Things like that shouldn’t be sprung on people; the kids were there, making it that much more awkward and inappropriate; and, she and Marty had basically just gotten together.
