I would have honestly not been interested in this book, had it not been the book of the month here! I've only read the sample but I like the premise and the characters in the book! I've recently read a book that was set during the period of Hitler, and I did like it so I'm going to give this one a try as well! If the sample is anything to judge by, I have a strong feeling I'm going to like the book very much!

I haven't read the book, but the sample was a worthwhile read. My taste in books has been changing, and after a reading a review about this book, I thought it would be worth it to try historical fiction. I did somewhat enjoy the sample, but I don't think I'm quite suited for this genre. It could just be the book, though. I'm not sure.

The humor and wit the characters in this book have is something anyone would enjoy! Hope you'll have fun reading it! :) May I ask what the book about Hitler was? I'm also interested in historical fictions, especially during that era. :techie-studyingbrown:

I'm not always a huge fan of historical fiction but I have started reading this book and it's super good so far. The hunorous bits add a lot to the novel and set it apart from other books about war.

I loved this novel, it had an amazing content. Jacko and Jamie are superb personalities. I would rate this novel at three out of 4 stars.

This is exactly how I feel about this book. It isn't something that would appeal to me normally, but the great reviews, descriptions and the sample have all made it a must-have for me. That's why I love this online book club, it introduces me to things I wouldn't usually consider which is exactly what I need at the moment as I have got in a bit of a reading rut!

This is very true! Even I have read books here that I normally wouldn't have otherwise and it's great because you can read reviews of so many people before you choose to read a particular book you're more likely to like!

briellejee wrote: 01 Feb 2019, 02:12 I am such a fan of historical fiction, though some books need to work on their narrative to be able to capture a whole lot of audience; and this one was a perfect one. I really liked the humorous dialogues between Jack and James. At first, when I read the sample, I must say that I would've dropped it since I find it tedious to read through all the gun firing, but then when James met Jack, the atmosphere seemed to be a little lighter and the mood of the book was lifted. Overall though, the setting was interesting and superb. The facts about the military soldiers during and after the war were well-researched and a bit enjoyable to know and learn. The characters are the real hero here though, so it's a 4/4 for me. :tiphat: Would recommend to people who like to learn and read more about war and soldiers, especially ones who like a lot of action scenes in the book. However, I might also recommend it to everyone because the book is just excellent for any reader. It is an all-around book for adults! :techie-studyinggray:
I support you on this. I picked the book thinking i wont really enjoy it but i was disappointed. I was so absorbed into it i find it hard to drop.

Wow! What a recommendation! I haven't read this book yet, but I am rethinking that. I love good characters and good stories.

I thought I was the only one who felt the book dragged a bit, but hey I enjoyed it nonetheless. My favourite character is Jacko because of the way he kept teasing Jamie, I also loved that he has a sense of humour and he got the girl too :mrgreen2:
I also loved the adventurous feel the whole story had, I enjoyed learning about the warramungans. I felt there could have been more twists and turns to the whole story which is probably why it was dragging a bit. This book is not the typical war story with gory details like I feared at first and for that, I give kudos to the author. I rated it "3 out of 4 stars"

This sounds like a really interesting book. I love historical fiction, but I tend to get stuck in the way-back machine and haven't read anything about WWII.

This is great. I wonder which is the one aspect that took away the one critical star that is needed for a perfect rating.
