Don't you think spirituality according to Richard is extreme, relative to how the world evolves and new ideas are been brougt up?

We live in an era where the devil is ready to conquer more people into his cage of frustrations and afflictions. I hope we all need to build strong spiritual foundations and fortresses to overcome the evil in society, thanks!

I think he is determined in his message and wants to get his ideas out. I don't know if I'd call it extreme though. He just firmly believes in his message.

I think the Haight took a lot of time and effort on searching for a kind of spirituality that gave him meaning and purpose. It does seem extreme to go to the Amazon and trust a tribal's ceremony to take a visionary herb to get direction for his life.

Do you mean to say that the way he looks at spirituality is really one-sided because he presents it as the be all end all "answer"?

How he left everything behind and went to Amazon and every place where he was needed, that was extreme.

Some may find it a little extreme, especially that part about the mugging. But I guess it just shows that his resolve for peace of mind and spiritual breakthrough is strong enough, and also his faith. This might sound a bit ridiculous but as the Bible says: "a faith small as a mustard seed can move mountains".

If you're referring to his methods in being spiritual, I could say it is a bit extreme but I guess you sacrifices need to be met to satisfy your needs or wants. All in all, it's still for a good purpose. :)

There were times when I was reading the book and how he slept out in the rain for days and was miserable and then went to the Amazon and had more misery, that it could have been easier. It’s not difficult to tap into the divine nature of oneself unless you think it’s hard. The tribulations that he put himself through are not necessary to get in touch with the spirit that resides in you. However, each person has their mindset, so what he did unlocked it for him, but yes, it seemed extreme to me.

I think some his actions were extreme, but only because he needed that extremeness to feel justified in his belief. Also from a writing perspective, people tend to not to give low-key actions a second thought but they might give more thought to extreme ones :)

I believe nothing is extreme in his writing. Forget about world evolution. We live in difficult times and we need extreme measures like spiritual directions and discernment to pull through and overcome life challenges and at the same time, complete our given quest.

One thing I have noticed that is on the extreme level is regarding his vision for the future where a great number of people will cease to exist so that they will be reincarnated somewhere in this vast universe. For me, the thought is really scary because, in a certain perspective, I was reminded of things like mass genocide where a great number of people are eradicated for a supposedly noble cause.

To each his own! it's always interesting to read books and articles by people with wildly different viewpoints.

Interesting, you necessarily don't need to seek refuge in Amazon you can seek refuge in yourself if you know how.
