ARA Review by mohammed faris 3 of Fish Wielder

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

“Fish Wielder” by J.R.R.R. (Jim) Hardison is a wonderful mix of imagination, parody, and crazy humor that makes for a refreshing and exceptionally engaging read. As a fan of both high fantasy and clever humor, I found this book to be an unexpected gem. From the very first page, Hardison sets the tone for a wild, quirky adventure that doesn’t take itself too seriously but still manages to deliver an engaging and imaginative story.

The book follows the adventures of Thoral Mighty Fist, a brooding, fish-wielding barbarian hero, and his sarcastic, talking fish companion, Brad, as they set out on a quest to save the world from an ancient evil. The contrast between Thoral’s overly serious attitude and Brad’s witty banter creates an endless stream of comic relief, making it impossible to read without grinning or laughing out loud. Their dynamic is at the heart of the story, and Hardison does a brilliant job of balancing the absurd with genuine moments of character development.

What makes “Fish Wielder” stand out from other fantasy books is its sharp satire of common fantasy tropes. Hardison has clearly done his homework on traditional fantasy, and he masterfully pokes fun at clichés while still maintaining a coherent and enjoyable plot. From evil wizards to mysterious prophecies, every familiar element of fantasy is turned on its head in a playful and humorous way. Yet, despite its comedic tone, the story is still compelling, with plenty of twists, turns, and exciting moments that keep the reader hooked.

The world-building in this novel is another highlight. The mystical land of Grome is full of bizarre creatures, magical artifacts, and strange locations that provide a perfect backdrop for the offbeat adventure. The details are vivid and imaginative, enhancing the overall quirky feel of the book. Even though the setting is fantastical and often ridiculous, Hardison’s world feels fully fleshed out and immersive.

Hardison’s writing style is fast-paced and accessible, making it an easy and enjoyable read for both fantasy enthusiasts and newcomers to the genre. The humor is sharp and well-executed, and the story moves at a brisk pace, never lingering too long on any one scene. This keeps the momentum going and ensures that the reader is always eager to see what happens next.

In conclusion, I happily give “Fish Wielder” a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars. It’s a unique, hilarious, and thoroughly entertaining fantasy novel that provides a much-needed break from the often overly serious nature of the genre. Whether you’re a fan of traditional fantasy or just looking for a fun, laugh-out-loud adventure,"Fish Wielder" is a must-read. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys satire, clever humor, and a good, old-fashioned quest filled with ridiculous twists.
