ARA Review by Sadaf Hossain of In It Together

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

In It Together: The Beautiful Struggle Uniting Us All is an in-depth study of human connection and collective coping by Eckhart Aurelius Hughes. The book delves into the complex fabric of human experience, suggesting that despite our different circumstances and personal challenges, there is a common thread that connects us all. Hughes draws from a variety of personal stories, cultural observations and philosophical theories to show how shared struggles can lead people to greater empathy and solidarity

The central idea of In It Together is that the adversities we face are not only personal battles but also communal experiences that foster a deeper sense of solidarity. Hughes believes that by taking common ground in our struggles, we can build stronger, more supportive communities. The book is structured around thematic conversations, each focusing on different aspects of human relationships, including resilience, compassion and group action Hughes' writing is visceral and thought-provoking, aiming to change readers’ perceptions of how they view interactions with others.

What sets this book apart is Hughes’ ability to blend personal narrative with broader social commentary. His presentation is engaging, skillfully weaving philosophical ideas with practical examples, making the book accessible and engaging The writing is clear and engaging, and Hughes's seriousness beckons invites readers to think deeply about their lives and relationships.

However, while the book’s message is powerful, some readers may find the insights on certain topics sometimes repetitive. Hughes’s insistence on the beauty of our collective struggle is compelling, but it can only be if we insist too often

I would rate this book 4 out of 5
