ARA Review by Ruth Ferguson of Moonlight Over Florence

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

In Moonlight Over Florence, the setting for the book was just about right for the prose. Florence, Italy, the place that David was familiar with while growing up; the people, their dialect and the descriptions of the scenery made the story come alive. The book had the main romantic theme but possessed a hint of comedy, as the characters seemed to be portrayed in their everyday lives.

David Bigelow, a New York Times' Best Selling author experienced writer's block after his renowned book was published. David's writer's block was exaggerated after the death of his mother. With David feeling a grave sense of loneliness and being the last of his family alive, he followed the advice of his literary agent, Nina, to take a DNA test. Little did David know that a relative unknown to him took a DNA test as well. The result of that DNA test aroused that relative to contact David and invite him to Florence to meet him.

David's trip to Florence was twofold. While he was eager to meet his half brother that a DNA test revealed he had, he desperately wanted to see her again: the beautiful soul who captivated his heart fifteen years earlier.

As the story unfolded, I felt so entranced that I read it every chance I got until the last chapter and sentence.

I absolutely loved the plot and the happy ending complemented the storyline. All the characters made the story feel so real. The role that each played, whether big or small was interesting. Spider was undoubtedly my favorite character. Spider was so witty, mature in reasoning and responsible for his age that I was not surprised that he was able to piece together who was David Bigelow’s beloved.

Moonlight Over Florence is a reminder that love conquers all. It transcends time and distance.

I must say that Moonlight Over Florence was worth the read. I came across three minor errors, but otherwise, the book seemed flawless and extremely pleasing to read. Therefore, I give Moonlight Over Florence a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
