I would rate the book three out of four stars. It missed out on the one star as I found it rather confusing on the whole.

gali wrote: 31 Aug 2019, 23:41 I finished it the other day and like it overall. The concept is original, but the world-building reminds me of Harry Potter's world. The story follows the magical quest of a twelve-year-old boy, as he goes into the parallel Echo realm to search for his missing sister. I love the idea of a parallel world, where reflections (echoes) of people (sounds) live. The illustrations added to the magic of the world. I enjoyed the scene where the pets revealed their true selves. Although I didn't notice any glaring errors, the writing was a bit juvenile. Still, I liked it. The orphanage reminded me of Hogwarts with his methods of serving meals, riddles, secret passages, and scary creatures that roamed the school. I loved that Hebrew was the key to the map and to saving Echoland. I liked that animals played a large role throughout the story. I also liked the play on words such as: the dog Poudini instead of Houdini; Crystalmas instead of Christmas. I enjoyed the book, but the plot felt a bit choppy at times, the fate sealers seemed to attack without any reason, and some parts dragged (the translation section). Therefore, I gave it 3 out of 4 stars.
Very Hogwarts like! Always a plus in my book!

I find this can be true for many fantasy type books. Maybe I just don't have a creative enough brain, but I often feel lost when reading them. This book was no different. Someone else used the word choppy and I think that sums it up perfectly.

I got a few pages into it, but it felt a liitle weird, like some other fantasy stories. I like that the father wanted to find Will's sister, but I couldn't tell how hard he was working at it. And the image of Will jumping into a frozen pond after his mother to try and find his sister was strange. I don't think the pond was a way to another world like C.S. Lewis portrayed in "The Magician's Nephew". I couldn't guess what was going to happen next.

I agree her writing style wasconfusing. especially how she set up finding out bits of information. But I promise you, if you ever decided to read it again it will make waaayyy more sense!

I dont think, in this case, it was the content but more-so the writing style. I even had written a note saying the sentences felt choppy and wierd while I was reading!

The entire book is sort of wierd like that. (And the pond reallt is like the gateway to another world). The dad really doesnt physically try that hard to be honest :P

The idea of parallel world was unique and the author paid a lot of attention to world building but sadly the character building wasn't that good. Writing was cryptic at times. I had to reread many pages for clarity. My rating is 2 out of 4.

I have read and reviewed this novel. As a whole, I enjoyed reading it and find it appropriate for both children and adults.

I am not usually a fan of fantasy, but the story had an interesting premise that kept me reading. I enjoyed reading the book, and I was fascinated by the illustrations.

I'mglad I'm not theonly one who felt this way! Cryptic is a good way to describe the writing! I'm big into writing styles that flow nicely. This one fell flat (and choppy) for me

I really enjoyed this book, and give it a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. The concept is intriguing, and the fantasy genre is one of my favorites. It’s definitely something I would recommend to another fan of fantasy or young adult novels. I enjoyed the descriptions and getting to know the characters. Both the author of the book, and the narrator of the audiobook, did a great job!

I particularly loved the character development. Check, for instance, how the author tactfully brought out Will's character.

I wavered on whether I should rate 2 or 3. Originally I picked 2 but after rereading the first half of the book I picked up on so much that I missed the first time and the author really did have a lot of minute details and little nuances that eventually interconnected, so I ultimately rated a 3. It was a little different, but I didnt think it belonged on the same shelf as the other books I have rated 2's haha
