What is your opinion of the biblical passages quoted at the beginning of each new mission?

I liked the way the author gave a famous quote then followed it by a quote from the Bible that was close in meaning. There were a couple of them I didn't think matched the famous quote exactly, but most of them held a similar meaning. I think it was a nice addition to the book.

The Bible quotes, if anything else, added some religiosity to the undertaking that is to commence. We might also say that some sort of rationale is offered by the quote regarding the justness or aptness of whatever action is at hand.

I agree that the quotes were relevant and served as a foreshadowing for the mission, but coupled with the language of the novel, the scriptures seem a little out of place.

Personally, I am not religious. But I felt that the author adding both a famous quote and a biblical quote before each mission made the story a bit more personal to him. I wasn't affected or bothered by it a bit. I feel like if one is adamant about not reading biblical passages, they could opt to only read the famous quote above it and receive the same message.

I think that the addition of Bible quotes was a good idea because traveling is like a religious experience. When you go to another country and experience their culture it opens up your eyes to things that you previously weren't aware of. The famous quotes were a great addition because it showed to me that the same ideas found in the Bible are also present in secular society.

That had honestly slipped my mind until you mentioned it. I suppose it must have simply blended in with the story for me.

I agree. I'm not religious either, but I appreciate the Christian bible as literature. Not only do many passages provide apt quotes for specific situations, but writers often use little snippets of words to make terrific book titles, like Agatha Christie's "Through a Glass Darkly."

It doesn't seem to have much of an effect to me...only that the author is a religious one maybe

I am not a Christian, so I just read them as I would any other Quote.

I think these quotes where great and effectively helped the author covey an underlying message about his spirituality and his final understanding of life as whole.

I like the idea of adding Bible verses to a book in this manner. It brings religion into it without incorporating it into the story unnecessarily. However, that might just be my religious side appreciating it. I can understand if there are some people who aren't as happy seeing one religion, and only one religion, being represented like this.

Biblical quotes intertwined with famous quotes at the beginning of every mission seemed unique to me. However, this may be a turn off for readers who aren't religious

Good Point. I enjoyed both of the additions.
