Martial Arts nerds

Post by canterbury »

I am a self-professed martial arts dork, and thought any others like me would get a kick out of this new book. I practice Brazilian jiu-jitsu as a hobby, and I came across Jiu-Jitsu University, by Saulo Ribeiro this weekend.

This book is incredible. I thumbed through it at the store, and after only a few minutes decided I needed it in my personal collection. It has very in-depth explanations of techniques, some that I have seen before, but never explained this way.

There are 360+ full-color pages and it is packed with information. The only real downside I have found is that it focuses mainly on newaza (ground grappling) and does not have any take-downs covered.

Other than that, the book is organized very well into five sections - each designated a different belt color to add to the martial arts theme. Ribeiro covers basic techniques all the way to advanced, and the most interesting part of his explanations is that he tells the reader what not to do! I have never seen this in a jiu-jitsu book thus far!

If you are in the market for a new martial arts book, or you want to pick up a new hobby, Jiu-Jitsu University is a great starting point. It is perfect for the beginner and expert alike. Overall, a great find in the martial arts market!
