Review of Lions, Elephants & Bears
Lexi just began a new job as an ACO (Animal Control Officer) and was happy because this job allows her to save the lives of animals. She has a sister named Ruby, who recently lost her husband in a fatal accident. It seems to Ruby that her world has collapsed and she can never find love again. Lexi and Ruby seem to be the only people remaining for each other because they lost their parents in a plane crash. Lexi also thinks it would be difficult to find true love because most of the guys she met always say, on the first date, how they were good in bed. Will Lexi later find true love? Read “Lions, Elephants & Bears” by Ilona Benzel to enjoy all the adventures that Lexi faces in her work as an ACO.
The story is enjoyable, but it’s a type of story that should be read carefully, as it’s easy to miss important details due to the slow pace. One of the book's main characters is Lexi. Her love for dogs is exceptional. Apart from the dogs she breeds, her dedication to her job shows how much she loves to save the lives of animals. In her work as an ACO, there are different types of loose animal cases she has to handle. For example, she has to deal with some loose dogs, bring them back to their owners, and sometimes fine the owners for their negligence. Another case is that of two horses that the owner starved to the extent that the horses' ribs began to show. She has to make the owner surrender both horses. Reading this book brought my attention to how some people don’t take good care of their animals. There should be a law that states what needs to be done to own an animal and how they will face the law if they fail to meet such requirements.
Another major character is Doug, Lexi's coworker. There is also another character, Ben, one of Lexi's dates, who lies and says that he is one of the top-rated bikers. Lexi later found out that he was just a delivery guy for the company.
One of the drawbacks of this book is the lack of suspense, which may make the reader lose interest in reading the book to the end. Most of the scenes in the book are about Lexi performing her job as an ACO, rescuing animals, and this ranges from the beginning of the book to the end, with only a little touch of her relationship life and that of her sister. Another issue is that this book contains some repetitive words at the beginning, such as on pages 2 and 3. Although I read this book in document format, which means all the repeated words and mistakes can be easily corrected.
The book also needs another round of editing, as I found a lot of errors. Therefore, I would rate this book three out of five stars. I removed one star based on the editing errors and another star based on the drawbacks mentioned above. I would recommend this book to lovers of fiction. Those who love to read about animals, especially dogs, will enjoy reading this book, as it talks more about how to take care of dogs, the importance of spaying them, and much more.
