Renee R. White wrote a brief memoir called "From Creepin 2 Preachin." Growing up with separated parents in the 1960s had its ups and downs, which she experienced in equal measure. This memoir is made up of short stories that follow her journey from a curious child to a responsible Christian adult.

This book piqued my interest in some ways due to its storytelling. It was done in such a way that I was eager to find out how the current experience would end and what the next story would hold for me. I especially liked the part where the author was a street cheerleader and became an expert at cussing. One time, when she was in her element, her mother overheard her daughter spewing profanities. I could only imagine her mother's thoughts at the time. Stories like these kept me smiling and engrossed in the book as I turned each page.

Growing up in Uptown, DC, she was exposed to a variety of experiences that influenced her. The author describes how she became pregnant at a young age and how people judged her with their eyes alone. Her relationships were not always pleasant, and the majority of them ended badly. Despite this, she struggled to find a way to overcome the setbacks for the sake of herself and her son. I really liked the underlying message of perseverance here; the prospect of a better future was what kept her going.

This was a short and straightforward book with just the right balance of happy and sad moments. The bite-sized chapters had some excellent headings. One of the best puns was "Ho-Ho-Ho," a chapter that described the consequences of her sleeping around without protection. Small details like this were sprinkled throughout the book, providing much-needed levity.

Even though I enjoyed reading this book, I wished there had been more emphasis on some of the more interesting turns of events, such as clubbing with her older sister and her journey as a recovering Christian. However, the book's brevity made that impossible. I also discovered numerous errors, indicating that this book would benefit from another round of thorough editing. Because of the aforementioned shortcomings, I gave this book a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. It was properly written with a streamlined structure, and I appreciate the effort put into it. Christians who have relapsed or struggle with being unforgiving can benefit from this author's experiences.
