What a fun book! From beginning to end, Gertie McDowell's mishaps and adventures in her quest for fame, love, success, and happiness, are pure entertainment. While she is not the brightest girl on the block, I wouldn't call her dumb. She's simply very naive and lacking sophistication. Despite the fact that these characteristics cause her a great deal of heartache, they also are why she is so charming and likeable. You can't root against her, even when you see her making poor choices.
I zipped through this book in one sitting. It was a great escape and enjoyable to read.
