Review of Miracle at Angels Bend
R. Christian Bohlen’s Miracle at Angels Bend is a story within a story, showing how the tale of Jesus can change lives.
Miracle at Angels Bend starts with Dave, who is tasked with gathering together a group of people to read a book. The book’s contents cause immediate reactions, which is commonly the case with religious writing. Larina is doubtful, but curious. She is a journalist and any chance to thoroughly study a topic is intriguing. Josh is resistant, but his father (Dave) promises to buy an expensive guitar amp for him if he reads it and participates in the group discussions. Hannah is reluctant. Once strong in her faith, the death of her father and brother have made everything seem very far away. Arman has the most doubts but is just intrigued enough to participate. All of them are given the book to read with the expectation that they meet as a group to discuss how the book is impacting their lives. The only caveat is that they are not allowed to know who the author of the book is until they’ve read it all.
The book is the story of Jesus’s life from birth to crucifixion. Rather than just telling the story, it offers deeper explanations and real-life applications. None of the characters expect the book to have an impact, but for some of them, it will change their entire lives.
I enjoyed reading this book far more than I anticipated. The way it is written showcases Jesus’s sacrifice and God’s love in a way that is easily understood and biblically sound. It is a beautiful story of hope and redemption. Anyone with doubts could pick up this book and gain a better understanding of what salvation means. I have understood salvation since I was a child. Even I was able to learn something and grow in my faith from reading this book. We all have room to grow.
I would give this book a 5 out of 5 stars. It is very well-written with minimal errors. The characters all show beautiful growth and understanding. The concept is easy to understand but does not hold anything back. This is a book that anyone could read and appreciate, whether or not they have faith.
