Congratulations on the BOTD award. This is an action-packed thriller. The characters mentioned here are extreme in their manner. The narrative includes alcoholism, drugs, and nudity throughout the book hence, I think this may not be appropriate for some readers.

Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved.

Helen Keller

What the reviewer said, many self publishers forget the importance of character development as they try to build a good plot. But I will pass the book since I have little interest in plot or the lack thereof.

I cannot wait to delve into the author's story and his friendship with Duke. These two seem to have gone through some tough moments in life that would break any individual, but they seem to overcome those obstacles. Congrats to the author for having the BOTD.

Gary Robinson's story "The Sword Swallower and a Chico Kid" is a captivating narrative that skillfully combines themes of coming-of-age, adventure, and history. It centers on the unexpected bond between two misfits, Sonny, a Chico Kid with a murky history, and Red, a sword swallower with a tormented spirit, and is set against the backdrop of the 1950s American West. Danger, treachery, and the quest for atonement put their relationship to the test as they negotiate the harsh realities of life on the road. This book is an engrossing voyage into the core of friendship and self-discovery, thanks to Robinson's evocative style and real characters. A gripping book from beginning to end.

I don't really like books related to alcoholism or drugs. But the mention of humor amidst serious themes and dialogues piques my interest. It seems like a well-written book. Thank you for your review!

This sounds like an interesting book. I'm curious in what kind of relationship Duke and Gary would have. The nickname Chico Kid also got me intrigue. Thanks for the review.
