The truth of society never fades. The ignorance and abandonment of other that do not fit the standard. I liked how this book gives a calvin a lifeboat to soar through the ocean in from of Bellemy. Also calvin finding an imaginary friend in someone when he is accepted in the society says so much.

Just like Calvin's parents, most guardians struggle to understand the unique needs of children who suffer from ADHD. The inclusion of other themes like racism, homophobia, sexuality, and friendship makes this book insightful and relatable, especially to the current generation. I am interested in following Calvin's life right from childhood!

Covering topics like racism, homophobia and children that's misunderstood a.k.a outcasts, is quite a bold move for the author since it's very sensitive subjects even today. I find this commendable and can't wait to read this. I think everyone can learn a lot from reading this. Thanks for a great review. Congrats on BOTD.

Thank you for your great review. I'm glad you enjoyed the book. After reading the sample and your review, I decided I wanted to add it to my list of books to read. I'm glad he at least had Bellamy's friendship and later two other friendships, even if he couldn't let others know. Sometimes our imaginary friends are the ones that are the closest to us. This sounds like a great read.

I grew up in the 60s and 70s so the nostalgia you mentioned will appeal to me. This sounds like a book with many layers and I’m looking forward to reading it.

“Bellamy” by G. Bradley Davis is a story about a boy named Calvin that grows up in a small town in the 1960s. Calvin is the 4th child and his mother died from breast cancer when Calvin was an infant. The father remarried and the stepmother was a woman that seemed to enjoy punishing Calvin with a leather belt that cut his exposed skin and she would tell him the blood was the bad in him leaving his body. One day a boy his age appeared in his room and told him his name was Bellamy and he would always be there for him. This imaginary friend helped Calvin get through homelife and school life for years. Calvin was the youngest in his class, so he was always behind in physical development. Having grown up in the 60s as the youngest boy in my class I faced similar issues since I was the smallest boy or girl in my class through 8th grade. I was well aware of prejudice and racism, but I do not recall homophobia at that time. While I was not an outcast like Calvin, I definitely empathized with him. To learn more one must read the book.

This kind of things still prevalent in many small towns & the character of Calvin also helps many such Calvin's to relate with. Homophobia & Racism still we see all around the world, hence this book might be a good read for the one who is looking for emotional stories.

Talking about nostalgia from the past, combined with discussions of racism from that era, makes the theme of this book seem intriguing. As someone with ADHD, reading about the struggles of fellow neurodivergent individuals in the past will be fascinating. Reading your review makes me even more eager to read this book. Thank you for writing this. What a great review.
Your Sincerely

Congratulations on the BOTD award. Bellamy is an imaginary friend of Calvin who is shunned by everyone. Read this book that deals with various prejudices and compared it to the 60s. The review above is crisp and insightful.
