Thank you for your wonderful review. I agree, though fiction, it touches on so many real life topics. My heart goes out to the mom, especially. I'm sure many will be glad to read this book.

The narrative then discusses Samuel and Lily, a young couple in Arusha who had to deal with a difficult issue when Annika's child was in danger because she had albinism. They knew that in Tanzania, albinos were frequently viewed as something other than human, with some people even thinking they were ghosts. More worrisome was the notion that albinos had magical properties in their bodies, which resulted in the unsettling custom of catching them and removing their organs. Samuel and Lily were extremely concerned about Annika's safety because of these upsetting circumstances. It is a very good BOTD.

This book tells the story of a couple and their daughter who, due to strange adversities, had their daughter leave their home country with a white couple. In Tanzania, according to the narrative, they have quite different beliefs about people with albinism, such as that their organs are magical. Interesting story worth reading. Good work. #BOTD

Annika was born with albinism. Living in Tanzania, this meant her life was at risk, as people with albinism are sometimes believed to be ghosts. Samuel and Lily, Annika's parents, created a plan to protect her, but the plan might not result as they imagined.

The cover of the book made me think of this as some fantasy story, but reading the sample pages changed my opinion. A heart breaking story of a girl born with albinism in Tanzinia faces discrimination by society. I am interested in knowing what happens next. Thank you for a beautiful review!

Wow, this sounds like such a powerful and emotional read. The story of Annika and her parents already has me hooked—I can’t imagine the heartbreak Lily must’ve felt. I love how the book doesn’t just tell a story, but also sheds light on real-world issues like the dangers faced by people with albinism. Definitely adding Zeru Zeru Girl to my must-read list!

This book is very informative on the subject of stigma, the unnatural treatment given to those unique individuals called albinos. the story is quite moving, the situation around Annika and the emotional journey Lily would have to go through is not something anyone would wish for.

Barbara Kerr's "Zeru Zeru Girl" looks promising, and I look forward to reading it. The book delves into various life issues, educating readers about the challenges, stigma, hardships, and dangers that individuals with albinism faces.Samuel and Lily's daughter, Annika, who is an albino is in danger of these disturbing practices, and needed to be sent to safety. Critical themes of mistreatment of individuals with albinism, harsh living conditions and the cruelties faced by people in different parts of the world were highlighted.

From the sample I read, I agree with your review. I could feel the fear in the characters as they were afraid the little girl would be taken. Your review and the sample both make me want to continue to read the book. Thank you for such a thorough review. Congratulations on the BOTD.

This is definitely something that I would read. I know there's alot of different ways that black people see albino's, but I never knew that they are seen either as 'magical' or a thread. I think this story is going to be very insightful. I just hope Samuel made the right choice. As white people can be very cruel too. Thanks for a great review. Congrats on BOTD.

I think it's great that Barbara Kerr uses Zeru Zeru Girl to create awareness of some terrible practices and beliefs regarding albinos in some parts of the world using Annika's story. The plot sounds intriguing, so I'll check this book out.

The information isn't surprising to me, because I watched a documentary about albinos on the Discovery Channel a decade ago, but I was startled to know such practices are still in effect. I admire Annika's parents doing everything in their power to save their child from this fate and hope she will get lucky and her life will be happy, despite all dangers. Congratulations on BOTD!
