I had the pleasure of reading this book last year. Gary Robinson has written a moving story about addiction, destructive behavior, human nature, atonement, and ultimately, a second chance at life.
I wholeheartedly gave it a perfect score as well. Thank you for your review.

The interplay between family dynamics, unexpected deliveries, and personal connections through art creates a poignant moment. The revelation of Duke's significance and the protagonist's emotional response adds depth to the narrative.

I read the sample of this book, and I couldn't stomach (so to speak) the description of Duke carrying out his sword swallowing skills. I'll pass on this one.

Duke lives on an adrenaline rush, while Gary peaks in school, but his scholastic performance gradually diminishes in college owing to his alcohol addiction. The “sword swallower” Duke and “Chico Kid” Gary’s paths intertwine with the commonality of alcohol addiction. I appreciate the author spending enough time to develop the characters. Readers will enjoy this emotional and fun story. I liked your review.

"The Sword Swallower and a Chico Kid" by Gary Robinson. An interesting book, shares three different parts. Duke Reynolds, the sword swallower, Gary Robinson, the Chico kid and brings the two characters together and discusses their impact on each other. This book focuses more of developing the characters. Congrats on your #BOTD.

Well-written characters that develop with the events and their interconnectedness is an attractive element for reading the story, but I don't like stories that revolve around drugs and alcohol very much, so I will skip it. The review is comprehensive and beautifully written. Congrats on BOTD

Thank you so much for your through and understandable review of "The Sword Swallower and a Chico Kid." At initial glance, I probably would not have picked up this book to read; now that I have been enlightened by your overview, I feel that it will be a book that would pull me in. I so very much enjoy robust characters and those that are one way, but make you feel the other way... Opposing thoughts.. it challenges my ideals. I will definitely read this one. Thanks again.

"The Sword Swallower and a Chico Kid" by Gary Robinson Sounds like party biography and part auto-biography according to the appreciative online book club reviewer. There is a lot of character development and enjoyable dialogue in this book. There is also a lot of drugs, alcohol and nudity throughout the story.

The raw portrayal of addiction and the intricacies of personal growth kept me hooked from start to finish. Robinson's ability to breathe life into his characters made me empathize with their struggles, rooting for their redemption with every turn of the page.
