has anyone read this book? I'm almost finished with it and I found it fascinating, but had not heard of it until my boyfriend informed me that procupine tree (a band) wrote an album (fear of a blank planet) after having read it. If you have read it what were your thoughts? Do you think it was to be taken literally or metaphorically?

that is FABULOUS, i had no idea, i've GOT to check that out.
=]
i'm glad you liked it, i personally found the terby a humorous addition to the story.
haha.
i'm a huuuuuuuuge ellis fan.
i reccomend you read american psycho.
ellis' work can be taken metaphorically, i certainly do not think he wrote things like american psycho so some shmooze can get off to the graphic murders in the books. its a bit tricky to think about, there's a lot that can be tangled when translating his books into ideas.
lunar park is unique in that it is a fictional autobiography, the bulk of ellis' work seems to show us the corruption in wealthy areas of society, particularly in the 80's and 90's. it can sometimes be a comfort to know other human's impulses and ideas are as outrageous as your own, although most of his characters are what some would call morally corrupt. =]
overall, i took lunar park as an enteraining "ha!" at how destroyed such a lavishly wealthy group of people can be, and ellis' character's personal thoughts are hilarious at times. there is a lot to translate, for sure, in the respect of symbolism, the paint peeling on the house is merely one of a thousand examples... what i took from it there abouts was how a single idea in the back of your mind can cloak your entire mind in its light, errr... shadow.
mmmmmm ellis is great.
