As adults, sometimes we need a break from the daily stress we are subjected to in order to rejuvenate and feel refreshed once again. For some, a break might mean a trip to the Bahamas or the Maldives, but Adrain Green, a software engineer and recent divorcee about to turn thirty, opts for a trip to Japan. He decided to use the opportunity of his visit to Japan to return a samurai sword his grandfather had taken from a Japanese soldier. His peaceful getaway was subsequently interrupted by lonely Kami, a ghost who lived in his rented space. Clearly, Japan had more in store for him than he had imagined.

The book delivered everything it promised, from the supernatural down to the physical. There was a perfect blend between both the physical and spiritual worlds. I loved Adrian’s relationship with the ghost of Emiko; it passed the message that peaceful coexistence inspired by mutual respect for differences in cultures is achievable. With Michael R. French’s detailed descriptions, learning a few things about Japan was really easy. Ghost With Two Hearts has a lot to teach about the culture and people of Japan. One of the standout lessons from this book that resonated with me was the idea that certain imperfect things or situations are better left the way they are than wanting to find out the perils attached to trying to make them perfect. The importance of forgiveness in order to move forward was another lesson I picked from the character of Emiko.

Even though I had reservations about the end of the story, I enjoyed the author’s creative writing and the characters' dynamics. I picked great lessons from certain themes in the story as well. Essentially, I didn't really find anything to dislike about the book.

I rate Ghost With Two Hearts by Michael R. French 5 out of 5 stars. I found no errors in any of the book's pages, and I also found nothing concrete to detest about it, so I didn't remove a star.

Readers with a special interest in books about happenings in the supernatural realm and how they can blend with the physical realm should grab a copy of this book. Generally, all lovers of fantasy stories will enjoy it as well.

A trip to Japan to return a samurai surd almost sounds like something out of a cartoon or comic book. I like that the author focused on Japan. I too am interested in learning a little about Japan. Their culture seems so complicated, so it truly is a mystery to me. The book's cover is a bit strange though. It's not something that'll pique the interest of a reader if sold in paperback.

The book's premise of Adrian, a software engineer escaping to Japan after a divorce only to encounter the lonely ghost Kami residing in his rental, sounds like an intriguing and creative set-up. I love to read the entire book soon.

A book set in Japan will always catch my interest. From your review, it seems like the author is respectful in presenting Japanese culture. The story of returning a samurai sword sounds intriguing too.

"Ghost with Two Hearts" by Michael R. French is a compelling and thought-provoking novel that intertwines themes of love, loss, and the supernatural in a beautifully written narrative. The story follows the journey of Chuck, an American software engineer who travels to Japan, seeking solace and a fresh start after a personal tragedy. As he navigates the unfamiliar terrain, he becomes entwined with the spirit of a samurai warrior named Daiki, whose own unfinished business in the realm of the living mirrors Chuck's emotional turmoil.

The book skillfully blends elements of Japanese culture and folklore, providing a rich and immersive backdrop that adds depth to the characters' experiences. French's portrayal of Chuck is both empathetic and nuanced; his grief and search for meaning resonate deeply, making him a relatable and sympathetic protagonist. Daiki's story, told through hauntingly vivid flashbacks, adds layers of historical intrigue and emotional gravity.

One of the standout aspects of the novel is the seamless integration of the supernatural. The ghostly interactions are handled with a delicate touch, enhancing rather than overshadowing the human drama. This balance allows the narrative to explore profound questions about fate, destiny, and the interconnectedness of lives across time and space.

French's writing is evocative and lyrical, capturing the essence of Japan's serene landscapes and bustling urban scenes. His attention to detail brings the setting to life, making it almost a character in its own right. The pacing is deliberate but never slow, allowing readers to savor the emotional and spiritual journey of the characters.

"Ghost with Two Hearts" is not just a ghost story; it's a meditation on healing and the enduring power of love. It's a book that lingers in the mind long after the last page is turned, leaving readers to ponder the invisible threads that bind us all. For those who enjoy stories that combine emotional depth with a touch of the supernatural, this novel is a must-read.

Thank you for the great review. Japan has always had a certain mystical and in-worldly feel about it to me, and their traditions are so interesting, the book is a good all-rounder - great storyline, interesting traditions and a hint of mysticism.

There is something that captivates me about this book "ghost with two hearts" by michael r french. The physical and spiritual world has always fascinated me, and as is the norm for me, I love reading more of this stuff in fiction than elsewhere. The imagination makes it enjoyable and I love it. Adding it to my reading list.

I like the lesson that certain imperfect things should be left alone instead of trying to make them perfect. Also the element of forgiveness, and the culture of Japan. Not sure about the supernatural element, but since the author was generous enough to make the BOTD free, I will certainly read it.

Different people have different ideas about what is relaxing. Adrian also had the mission to return the sword. That kind of thing can sway your thinking, too. Congratulations on BOTD!
