In the Cut: A Collection of Short Stories by Michael Lockett is a book with 11 short fictional stories that tell completely different tales. Each tale tells the story of different characters with themes that include family, childhood, trauma, and even personal struggles. The introductory story, “The Blast,” is a simple and very short story that narrates and explores the importance of family and relationships. Of course, there’s a lot more to discover and read about in the pages of this book. Grab a copy to explore the adventure that awaits you in its pages.

I liked how the stories were short, detailed, and straight to the point. My favorite tale in the book was that of A Good Father because the story describes the true love of a father with many lessons to learn from, such as faith and hope. Also, I only found a few grammatical errors while reading through this book; hence, it was professionally edited.

I did not like the fact that it was hard to follow some stories because the name of the person whose point of view was being shared in some stories was either not mentioned or was mentioned towards the end of the book. Also, for a book that involved the point of view of mostly children, the stories were mostly disturbing. I also do not believe this book is intended for children or even younger teenagers.

However, I will rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because some of the stories in the book bear lessons that can help those battling certain traumas. Also, I believe “Gallows’ Hills” is one with a very deep meaning and lesson for readers. Regardless of the comments given above, I would have strongly disagreed if it were stated that this book is intended for children to read because of its high level of graphic content and profanity. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy short stories; they could read one at a time over any given period of time. However, it is preferably suited for mature readers who are emotionally strong and mature enough to handle some of the themes explored in this book.

Alooma! Mahalo for sharing your review of In the Cut: A Collection of Short Stories. It sounds like an intriguing book with a variety of tales to explore. I appreciate your honesty about the disturbing and mature content, as well as the lessons that can be learned from some of the stories. Overall, it appears to be a thought-provoking read, but not suitable for younger audiences. Mahalo for your insights! Unforgettable climax, left me breathless with anticipation.
