“Another Step Up The Mountain” by Dianette Wells is the true life story of a mother’s unflinching love for her children. Dianette has an immense love for climbing. However, her husband wants her to be someone she cannot be: a stay-at-home mother with a reasonable source of income. Instead, climbing gives her a sense of purpose and fulfilment.

This book narrates her adventures in jungle racing and mountaineering. These are life-threatening sports; however, Dianette relishes coming out victorious, which is a major drive for her. She successfully climbs Mount Everest, Whitney, and Kilimanjaro, amongst others. Johnny, her second child, inherits her wild side. He loves extreme sports and actively indulges in wingsuiting and BASE (building, antenna, span, and earth) jumping.

This book highlights grief in a way I’ve never experienced in a book. I could feel the author’s emotions as she narrated events in the story. This book covers family values, the effects of body-shaming, verbal abuse, divorce, and so on. It is important for husbands to support their wives and make them feel heard, loved, and appreciated. This should also happen, and vice versa. The book indirectly exhibits the need for parents to keep their promises, especially to their children, to avoid trust issues in the future.

I didn’t find any flaws to point out in the book. It’s an emotional story that has taught me a lot of lessons about life. The story progresses at a calculated pace, which provides a consistent rhythm throughout the book. Therefore, I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. I found no errors while reading, which makes the book perfectly edited.

I highly recommend this book to parents whose children enjoy extreme sports, as they'll gain some insights concerning ways to handle the situation. Again, if you enjoy reading books about jungle racing, mountaineering, and wingsuiting, this book is definitely for you.

Awesome review!
I have read a memoir with this kind of a story before, and they all cool. A woman's fierce love for her kids and her passion isn't one that can be tamed . I'm impressed by how you connected with the book on a personal level, especially when it comes to grief and emotions. Great review.
