People who read are hiders. They hide who they are. People who hide don't always like who they are.

Yeah , I think that this book had interesting cast of female characters. Sarah- the grandmother, Hillary- the mother and Claire - the kid. All great examples of the generations. All held together by Hillary.ciecheesemeister wrote: ↑24 Mar 2020, 21:11 Although I liked Claire and Sarah very well, I'd have to say that Hillary is my favorite. She is very much the lynchpin of the story. She pulls everything together.

And oh she was a fighter and she wasn't too easy. But well, she loved the wrong person.

Hillary made bad choices, was erractic, over protective now, least protective the next few minutes, at some point rigid but she was willing to correct her mistakes.
Even though I think she was a bit too obsessed in being a good mother, she found her way around it. This for me, touched my heart..Hillary's struggle some how made me see myself in her, and I can relate with her pains and hurt.
Sarah, bless her, an older and wiser character was there to help make things less difficult. She loved with her all.

I love your explanations. I do think somewhat the same. I would add Claire as third generations in this ensemble of great and interesting female characters.Raycheal+2020 wrote: ↑26 Mar 2020, 14:55 My favorite characters are Hillary and Sarah.

I like all four female characters too.Adedayo+23 wrote: ↑06 Mar 2020, 19:16There was certainly no shortage of strong and relatable female characters in this book and I, for one, applaud this.AntonelaMaria wrote: ↑06 Mar 2020, 08:35 I liked female characters in this story and how well they represented each part; Claire as a child, Hilary as grown woman and Sarah as older and wiser version. I especially liked Bridget because she was such a warrior.
