Echoes from a Time Passage, by Susannah MacDonald, is a story of love, dance, and family.

Markas Xandaers was born into a high-ranking family in Ezskiasia. However, he does not want to be a diplomat or have any occupation expected of his social class. Markas loves dance. He loves dancing, learning about dances, and watching other people dance. The person he loves to watch the most is an Earth girl; he doesn't know her name, but he loves how she moves. Will Markas ever meet this Earth girl? Will his family accept his love of dance? Read Echoes from a Time Passage to find out!

Susannah MacDonald has an incredible writing style. It is so poetic and descriptive, making this book a true joy to read. I also loved the artwork throughout the book. There is an image at the start of each chapter that helps set the tone. These are amazing drawings, though that is to be expected because Susannah and her husband are both excellent artists.

One thing I did not like about this book was the very long chapters. The whole book only has six chapters, and there are no breaks in the text, which can make this a daunting read for some people. It makes some major events feel rushed because as soon as they have happened, you go straight into reading about the next thing. I believe it would be better to have a new chapter after the major events or a break in the text to give the readers a moment to pause and reflect on what happened.

I rate Susannah MacDonald's book Echoes from a Time Passage four out of five stars. This is a very well-written book, but I found the large chapters made it difficult to read.

I recommend this book for young adult readers who are interested in sci-fi, dance, and love stories. Please be aware that this book contains coarse language, sexual references, racism, and eating disorders.

I understand your complaint about long chapters, as they can indeed make it a daunting read. Otherwise, I might be old for this kind of novel but it seems engaging with the development of important themes. Thank you for your great review!
