The plot is based on a discovery that suggests that men in the distant past had a different form of communication that would be a “superpower.” The story also warns about the development of technologies that can create chaos for all of humanity.

Genes of the Past by Christer Jansson has caught my attention. I always believed that the people of the past communicated and lived a whole different life from what we live today. Congratulations on BOTD.

It addresses topics such as technological and scientific advances such as genetic manipulation and the commercialization of human capabilities, and addresses how these discoveries can change our world towards things we have never before imagined. This book puts that topic on the table in such a way that it not only allows you to think.

Thank you for your review. I sampled the book. What if ancient men had superpowers? What an imagination this author has! This is a fun book for readers interested in science. Congrats to the author for the #BOTD.

I read the sample and was intrigued by the findings of a new species of man that had a super sniffer, but the drawn out description of food, bouncing around of thoughts, and the over descriptive explanations about everything had my thoughts wandering away from the story.
I would not be able to read more than just the sample that was provided. The topic was very interesting and I would have liked to get to the more exciting part of the story quicker.

This sounds very intriguing and entertaining. Although I'm not someone that enjoy sci-fi, my curiousity about the superpowers as well as the blend of the past vs the modern world scenarios. Thanks for a great review. Congrats on BOTD.

So then this would be considered “hard science fiction” rather than “science fantasy”- that is, plausible in the real world or very near future with elements that are directly explained rather than simply imaginative.

“conversations he has with dogs” Oh, then the “advice” given to the squirrel in the sample isn’t an isolated incident? Really that’s one of the only things I found likeable about the protagonist … anyone who has to /refer/ to themselves as “funny” or “smart” or “a great guy” is quite annoying. IRL this type of behavior would be off-putting, it doesn’t stop being so in the written word. Let the reader form opinions for themselves.

I would like to know how the scientist was able to arrive at the hypothesis that men had a different form of communication in the past.

Enjoyed it immensely! Far-fetched idea and a bit technical, but it's still a great read. (I guess Scifi should be far-fetched, eh?) I particularly enjoyed the conversational presentation... it clearly shows the human side of scientists. That approach may seem a bit rambling at first, but becomes delightful as the story progresses.
