[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Leap!" by Patrick Wheeler.]

Leap! by Patrick Wheeler is a suspense filled fictional story that took me on a ride I honestly did not expect. The main character, Matt, goes through an experience that was not expected but can recall signs of it's onset starting from childhood. He is just a regular guy (maybe in his 50's) with a wonderful wife, kids, grand-children, a stable job and nothing more to ask for in life. That's when his world changes dramatically and he is tested in unthinkable scenarios where he is forced to make decisions that question his morality and basic survival by himself.

Although this plot is not extremely original, it was an overall exciting read and many times made me think "what would I do in this situation". It was realistic, which is important in this book because in most instances it is the only feeling that made me believe this story. The realistic sense does not excuse the parts of the story that don't really have a reason or conclusion. This seemed like the author was just adding fillers and at other times it seemed rushed. One example is portrayed in the following quote:

"...And we started looking for the missing twin. We could not find him. There was no way he could have gotten the tape off his arms and legs in the amount of time I left him...So we left..."

There are more memorable moments where I felt unsatisfied in the same way. Also, the grammatical errors got a bit annoying especially when they're found in key parts of the story, like say, the last sentence of a cliff hanging chapter. I can say, though, that these feelings soon subsided as I continued reading. Plus, there is sequel to this book that I haven't read so maybe those loose ends will be tied up. Speaking of the sequel, I am looking forward to reading it.

All in all, I am sure this book will entice many readers as it did me. It was a short read that could be read in an evening, but I was left with a good impression by the end. I would rate this book a 3.5 out of 4 stars because I would read this book again but it may not fulfill every reader's needs.
