Review of AWE
Pierre R. Schwob’s AWE is an environmental campaign thriller. There are many references to the intense subject throughout the book, showcasing the author's genius. Jargon is explained interestingly through the dialogues. With inherent depth in the writing, in this book, the author offers layers of complexity blended with a serene, intellectual spin on the story. It's an upbeat story that completely strikes a balance with its intelligent course, gradually unraveling the story.
There is a global feel to this science thriller, and the subject is impressively presented in an imminent, catastrophic manner. The author blends technology and human acumen through gaining wisdom from(of) historical references and current research. Further, the story is intricately balanced to cater to the reader's inquisitive mind. Especially, the author’s gradual introduction of the issues of environment and climate change, along with some motivating tech solutions to remedy them.
The characters are vividly described with their unique characters and interesting features about their persona. Their interactions are entertaining and explicit, enriching the reading experience of the plot. Pic’s perseverance and understanding with his colleagues are portrayed well. He is strong-witted when it comes to his conviction toward his goals. He accomplishes his goals by building a group of skilled professionals. He leads his newly recruited team.
The interesting plot gains pace as the high-risk high-reward project takes shape, and the team is getting ready for its final version. Their ambitious discussions are infectious and instill great enthusiasm in the reader. As the cheerful Lily and studious Ming collaborate, their interactions are aptly presented, highlighting the dynamics of the story. Pic steers the enthused team and keeps the plot in flux. Certain technological interests in their project solicited more collaborators. A global effort is initiated to enshrine their values in the maximum number of influential stakeholders. Makoto and Nana become his closest aides. How is this team going to approach the problems at hand? Do their close collaborators come along and rise to the needs of the hour?
Positive and negative aspects:
It's a fast-paced thriller with a clear intent on the subject of the story. The plot and all the characters are intertwined in a well-written, intriguing tale. Each character has its eminence portrayed well. They are their subject specialists or masters. I found the nemesis as creatively bold as the heroes in this book. Every twist in the book was well-placed and quite entertaining to read. It's a decent read and entertains the interested. It's well-edited, but I found certain errors. Besides this, I found the first half quite stretched, and the plot regains an interesting thrill only in the second half. As per the abovementioned factors and the Book Club's guidelines for reporting errors while rating, I would rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I would recommend it to technology buffs and fans of sci-fi, with a hint of research about the environment.
