A Viral Imperium by Darren Joy is a mythical science-fiction novel about Threadfin Todralan. Threadfin is on the run, living as a thief to avoid the Icarthian Imperium. On his travels, he begins to have visions of his sister, Aiyana. In his visions, Aiyana is in terrible danger. He will risk anything to save her, even his own life. He must avoid capture, and due to his condition, being undead, he is vulnerable to multiple attacks. He must endure dark magic, giants, and other mythical beasts on his journey. Can he survive the attacks and save his sister?

Aiyana Todralan is next in line to rule, due to her father’s untimely death. But there is someone who does not want Aiyana to take over the Imperium. Liviana Avitus is determined to use her power to capture Threadfin and stop Aiyana from ruling. Liviana is willing to sacrifice anything and anyone to become the ruler of the Icarthian Imperium. She is not afraid to kill anyone who gets in her way. Can Aiyana outrun those who threaten her and become the rightful ruler of the Imperium?

The author creates a captivating magical story with characters that have depth and interesting personalities. I enjoyed the multiple character perspectives throughout the novel. I was also fascinated with the dark magic and mythical creatures that appeared in this story. I rate this book four out of five stars. Parts of the story were somewhat confusing as I tried to unravel what was happening. I would recommend greater detail in different aspects of the storyline to build a clearer picture of what was taking place, especially when switching perspectives. I also encountered some errors while reading, so I would recommend additional editing. Overall, I found this book enjoyable and interesting.

I would recommend this book to a mature audience and anyone interested in science-fiction or mythical novels.
