One day, while listening to the sounds of deep space with her friend and colleague, John Richards, she gets the surprise of her life when they hear a mysterious thumping noise, like a drumroll. Utterly shocked, they investigate it further to discover that the signal actually originates from deep underground on Earth, travels into space, hits a comet, and comes back to Earth. A team of scientists locates the signal's origin, a small ranch 14 kilometers west of Karbala, Iraq. Interestingly, the area is known as the cradle of civilization. When they use ground-penetrating radar to search underneath that area, they find nothing artificial, like a machine, that could generate a signal. This leads them to conclude that the natural rocks under the earth vibrate and move to create some sort of mysterious signals. While this finding puzzles them, another discovery increases their confusion. They realize that the signal is not just banging noise, but similar to ancient Morse code, it appears to convey some message. Upon translating the code, which looks like an ancient version of the Tamil language, they are left stunned. The message says that the messenger is Earth and asks whether the message can be received. They struggle to believe it, but when they devise a method to reply, the Earth responds. But this implausible communication, which starts with awe, soon turns into pure horror when Earth delivers a haunting message. This causes widespread panic and chaos across the entire world. First, when I saw the book cover and title, I thought it was a non-fiction book related to Earth and environmental issues. Both the cover and title attracted me, and then when I read the blurb, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the book was a sci-fi thriller. I immediately picked up the book and started reading. I have to say I was thoroughly satisfied with the reading experience. The pacing was perfect, and I didn't get bored at any point. The flow of the story felt natural, and I was immersed in the book right from the gripping prologue. The action scenes were engaging, and it was intriguing to read about the various scientific explanations, like gravity, ozone, rotation, revolution, etc. As a Tamilian, I was fascinated to see Earth's first communication presented in the Tamil language. It felt refreshing to note that many of the important characters were female. I strongly believe that this book has all the elements for a great movie, and I would love to see it adapted for the big screen. Also, I felt that the book's ending sets up a premise for a sequel, and I genuinely hope that the author writes one.
While reading, I noticed a few errors. So, I believe the book needs another round of editing. But except for that fact, I loved everything in this book. As I felt the errors were not that distracting, they didn't warrant a star deduction. So, I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars.
As someone who cherishes and respects nature, this book resonated with me deeply. It serves as a true wake-up call to all humans, and I sincerely hope that we take the message to our hearts and treat Earth with love, care, and respect.
